    Aspiring Science Fiction Writer

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Greg the Parsnip, Jul 2, 2023.

Stumbled across this intriguing forum today - after careful consideration, I decided to join. I believe aspiring writers should interact with other writers, on a regular basis. We’ll see how this goes. Been a member of plenty an online forum, I have, but never a writer’s forum. Awesome, it is, that a place such as this exists online.

A little about me: I’m a personal trainer and fitness instructor - have worked at the same gym for almost seven years. I play saxophone, guitar, flute and piano. I perform with a couple bands in town in my spare time. My real passion, however, is writing science fiction and fantasy. Would very much like to be published some day.

My favorite authors are Steven Pressfield, Terry Goodkind, JK Rowling, Philip Dick and Frank Herbert (among others). I also enjoy reading CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. Lastly, I am a huge Star Wars nerd - as you probably can tell, from my username.

I’m looking to connect with other writers, get honest feedback on my writing and perhaps make a few friends here.

I turn 51 in August. My passion for writing has been growing throughout my life, though I have only been serious about it for a few years. Have taken some online writing courses and immersed myself in the craft, whenever I can steal away from my day job. I get up at 3am each day - typically, I spend about five hours a day on my novels, which remain in process.

Anyways, I will add more later. Looking forward to meeting everyone and interacting with nice folks.

Welcome, Grogu! Good, it is, that the way here, you found.

What are your projects about if you want to say? Or maybe you'd rather keep that private?

    @Grogu The Child
Thanks for sharing, sounds like you have varied and interesting ideas. 40 different novels! Wow! That takes a lot of creativity. Sounds like you have a lot of storytelling inside you.

I really liked the sound of the Son of Orion. Makes me wonder if it will be a local story, or if we will travel the cosmos with Kevin.

Also enjoyed the idea of Soxpirt's Thorn, because I like stories where you start of in a local small place that then moves forward into a big open universe, or in your case, multiverse.

The way forward, I hope you find.

    Grogu the Child,

    Welcome to the forum!

You mention "spare time." When deeply engaged in writing, that seems to evaporate, especially with a schedule filled with work and other activities, like you mentioned.

Glad you joined us and looking forward to crossinig paths with you here on the forum.

Hi Grogu, I'm also aspiring to write Science fiction, at least for myself.
Don't know if you plan on posting them but can't wait for you to finish Soxpirt’s Thorn, since I'm a bit obsessed with the multiverse right now and Ryan’s Cross sounds like an amazing concept, Love that Ryan's autistic too, It's a very close theme to me.
Hope you have a great journey in writing!

Thanks to all, for the kind welcome. From what I have seen so far, this forum can help me to grow as a writer and that’s why I’m here. Looking forward to getting to know everyone, as we share the journey.

Been really enjoying reading other’s writings - in the near future, I am planning to immerse myself in reading/reviewing other folk’s works, rather than showcasing my own stuff. After all, I emphatically believe that learning from others is just as vital in the writing process (if not more important), as putting my own stuff out there.

There will come a time when I will post my own stories for review, but I will be very patient in doing so.

Thanks again and, for those who live in the US, Happy 4th.

    - Grogu

... Shouldn't that be "May the 4th be with you?"
