Hello, I am a new member!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Natifix, Nov 20, 2020.

Hi. I wanted to check out some writers forums and get familiar with some communities out there because well, I started to write a little. I've always wondered about creative writing and have been told in college, I have potential. I guess it has been in the back of my mind for some time. After some time has passed I finally sat down and wrote a plotline for what was supposed to be one story but is now broken into six separate stories. Each will turn into a novel of its own, so I guess I planned out a chronicle of some sorts . . .

At this point, I have two pages of six paragraphs explaining the storyline and main characters, main events, etc. I would like to share the idea, I was wondering where can I do this? I guess part of me is looking for some kind of validation or approval, but not entirely. I enjoy writing as much as I enjoy science fiction in general, so I guess I can't care too much if my writing is bad or not of selling material quality. But what I wanted to know is all the other crap writers prolly go thru when they are writing their first stories and are considering writing novels for potential movie scripts, selling to a publisher, etc . . .

Where can I share my short story line, and what do writes do when they are considering , writing for $ . . . I appreciate the positive criticism, and only hope to share ideas to determine if this is for me. This is kinda a life change and the potential I spoke of early could mean I am to become a writer if all works out. I plan on writing a novel a month for a year to get familiar again with writing and editing, and networking to receive criticism. But what else is there I should do?

Thanks for any help you folks can provide!

ps. I love space exploration, and romance, and adventure, so my stories will be about humans and our survival in the cosmos!

Thanks. Say, where on this forum can I drop an outline of a story I want to write? I want to share the basic ideas, it is about 600 words is all . . . I would just like to share and see how people feel about it. Thanks. It says I cant post in science fiction yet.

Plot Development may be your best bet, i'd say.
But be sure to have some sort of question associated with it. "how do you feel about this plot" seems kind of vague, in my opinion. Its kind of hard to help or offer feedback without clear guidelines of just what it is you are looking to achieve. People around here are really helpful regardless, though

(also, i keep reading your name as "Netflix")

From what I can see, this forum isn't structured to allow analysis of a long piece of work. I suggest that you make contact with a local writer's club (or form one, if you don't have one handy). These "beta readers" are invaluable. In return, you'll be expected to critique other writers' works. It's a win-win process, since both of you (or all of you) learn something from the experience.

There's a critique section in the forum for that purpose as well, but I believe there are certain requirements to be met before starting a thread there.
