    Hello there

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by The Outer God, Apr 7, 2020.

    Who am I?
I actually have no real idea, I am just someone who likes to write stuff from time to time and to give it to my friends. But lately my bros are unavailable as they have stuff to do, school, work, families etc. One of them suggested to find a writing forum where people may help me to improve and where they perhaps even become hooked up.
I once tried to create myself a blog, but there was no one interested even after few consecutive attempts, after all, it was not as focused as I would like. I searched for something better.
And so I have found this place. Perhaps it will help me, perhaps it won't, one never knows. But I am looking forward to being here.
I like sci-fi and fantasy and I tend to write in said genres, where I mix them all up to create perhaps unique blends. I hope they are... I also like music a lot, I consider myself a synthwave cultist, but metal, disco or even orchestra won't hurt. Also a big fan of Lindsey stirling. But personally I don't play any instrument, I rather draw (monochromatic, they are usually sketches of what my inner eye sees.)
My latest creation, perhaps child even is called Nemurrak and it is my greatest focus lately. And I hope that it will be this place where it is brought into perfection.

So this would be me, The Outer God or TOG as people like to call me. And to everyone else:
    I salute you.

Welcome. I had a similar reason for turning up here too. Are you more of a short story or novel writer?

Short stories, I tend to call them visions. Almost dream like snippets or flashes of strange stuff happening. But recently I am also writing a bit longer series, each having under 10k words.

And another thing that I think is worthy mentioning is the fact, that my main point is worldbuilding itself, but neat stories on the side are a bonus I would like to improve.

Nah, not really, I am more of a biologist, not a linguist and so it would take me a looong time to make any kind of system from scratch. I focus more on the scientific and metaphysical part of the story, technology, biology as well as cultures, architecture, traditions and history. There are many factions, many races and many characters. It already is complex enough without the langauges.

If I were to describe it without much spoiling, it could be described as a mix of 40K, Mass Effect, LotR with visuals of neon 80s. High octane action, character interactions, ancient secrets and mysteries, plotting behind each other's backs and inevitably deciding the fate of the world. All in the most spectacular way possible.

Hi Outer God ...like the name, by the way! :)

I’m one of the forum moderators, and I want to welcome you to the forum.

In order to help you get oriented, here are a couple of links I strongly recommend that you read at the start— if you haven’t already. They will give you a good idea of how we operate here on the forum:

    New Member Quick Start

    Forum Rules

You will notice in the New Member Quick Start that in order to post your work in the Workshop area—the only area of the forum where you are allowed to ask for feedback—you will need to do at least two critiques for other people, in exchange for receiving feedback on one of your own pieces of work. (There are two other Workshop requirements you must also fulfill, explained in New Member Quick Start .)

This 2:1 critique/feedback ratio lasts as long as your membership here. In order to help you get started doing critiques, here is a link to a good article written by one of our former moderators: https://www.writingforums.org/threads/constructive-critiques.20627/

Another of the popular areas of our forum is our contest section. There is a monthly contest running for Short Stories, Flash Fiction and Poetry. You can enter these ongoing contests, even as a new member. I see you like to write short stories, so these contests might be right up your street, so to speak. :) And we encourage you to visit that site, read the current entries, and vote for your favourite when the voting period starts. Votes mean a lot to the people who have written these entries. And the stories will also give you a good idea of what our members are capable of writing.

While the Role Playing Game section is not new, it’s being given a revamp. So if you are interested in playing and writing Role Playing Games (and world creation, etc), you might want to visit this section and get in on the fun. https://www.writingforums.org/threads/resurrecting-the-dead-rpg-section-rebuild.165055/

I hope you have fun getting to know us and let us get to know you, via the posts you make. Please feel free to explore the forum. There is a lot under the hood. This site map might help you find your way around more quickly than the menu bars do, so feel free to use it. https://www.writingforums.org/faq/

If you encounter any difficulties, don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the other moderators, whose names appear in yellow at the bottom of the Community page. We will be glad to help.

    Again, welcome!

    Cheers for now,
    Jan

Both + Zayaz, Stilz, Gost and many many many more. Lazerpunk is also favorite on my brain plains. But what I get from this message that I see a fellow synthwave enthusiast, which always pleases me to see.

Edit: yaaay, I found the edit button!!

Thank you for the tips. I have already read the rules and the Workshop entry requirements, I even thought of looking in the RP section, but I didn't think of the constest section as the new writer i am and I will check it out.

    Thanks Jan.
