Hello, I'm very new to writing and especially posting publicly for others to read. I'm working on a few short romance stories right now. Most are in the 5-8k word range. My tales are probably really tame compared to some oh the more erotic stories I've come across. Probably not the norm, a guy writing romance stories, I do struggle with the love intrest speaking parts sounding natural. Anyway, hope to post some stores and get some feedback. Can wait to read and learn as I go.
Welcome. I'm in the same boat, but I feel like a male perspective in romance is something that doesn't crop up much. I wouldn't worry about them being tame, since there's enough of that slop out there, and it wouldn't really be suitable for the workshop here anyway. Post some samples in that section, and we can hopefully provide some feedback. Also start a progress journal if you have time, since I find that helps me stay on tracks.
Howdy! Welcome to to WF! Feel free to share your work - no one will be judgemental. We're all here to help each other improve. A word of warning though, 5-8k might be a little too long for many workshop pieces, so excerpts with targeted questions might work better.
Welcome TexasCowboy. There are so many things I miss about living in Arlington. Biscuits and gravy with a little homemade sausage thrown in. Steak and eggs for breakfast and a bunch of other things. I don't miss the heat with your shirt sticking to you at eight in the morning. I'll be looking for your post. Good to have you here.
Ah Arlington, home of The Cowboys, Rangers, Six Flags, NRH2O, been there many times. But I’m from East TX, you’re right it gets oppressively hot in August and scary in April, May June with tornadoes weekly lol.
Hello and welcome, you've come the right place for honing those writing skills. The story contests are especially good for that. It's interesting, a man writing romance. Do your write from the man's or woman's point of view? Please make yourself at home here. Looking forward to seeing you in the forums!
Mostly the guys prospective, it's fun to think, how I would react if in the situation. I do struggle to also show what's on the mind of the female love intrest and the other females surrounding her. How she would feel, what would cross her mind. I want the thoughts and interactions to be realistic and not over the top. I also struggle with, not being descriptive enough, almost like I rush the story a little. I listen to a lot of stories on my way to work. The writer sometimes seem repetitive, saying the same thing five different ways. But they do go very much into detail, how he felt, how she felt, whats going on around them. Thats the biggest thing I'm working on, the details.
Yeah. Agreed. Women have the same feelings as men for the most part. They are just socialized differently.
