Hello, whoever is out there. I like writing for fun. Or for serious. Just not for money. In particular, I am interested in the writing workshop here. I want to get constructive criticism so I can become a better writer. And who knows, maybe my critiques could help other writers. I read the rules and it sounds like a good learning environment.
I would love to make money from my writing, but I am a realist. Successful writers, actors, and musicians are all winners in a lottery for talented people. You should do well with that attitude. Maybe you will be successful, but even if you are not, you will have created something. (the last is homage to a famous quote by Vonnegut.)
I fear that obsessing over "success" distracts from enjoying anything. It seems to have a lot to do with markets and audiences and publishers and other un-fun things. That said, I'm glad for great writers (like Kurt Vonnegut) who managed to make it big, through some combination of luck and skill, and share their great works with everyone.
