    Hello There!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Det Del Dragons, Jul 2, 2022.

Never been on a writing forum before, but this seems really cool! My name is Peter. I've always loved reading and writing, and I'm doing my best to become a better writer. I was a creative writing minor in college, and even had the pleasure of having Stephen King's son as a professor (that was a crazy day when we learned who he was). I tend to stick to fantasy, though because I majored in geography I've been reading a lot more non-fiction the past five years. I also started actively seeking more LGBTQ+ fiction the summer of 2020. Michael Barakiva's Hold My Hand is incredible, and I loved Mason Deaver's I Wish You All The Best. Some of the fantasy stories I like are Eragon, How To Train Your Dragon, anything Star Wars, Artemis Fowl. I also love animated tv shows and movies like The Owl House, Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Raya and the Last Dragon, etc. I would love to become a writer for a show one day. Currently trying to become a Geography professor, but I suppose in a second life I can be a tv show writer.

I haven't published anything yet. I did finish a manuscript for one book about a fantasy, post-apocalyptic world that takes place thousands of years from now on earth (putting those geography and creative writing skills together). I also am working on a creative writing podcast with my college friend Izzy (also an English minor). The goal of the podcast is to push us to become better writers. It's called "Determination, Deliberation, and Dragons." We workshop our own stories, and we also analyze some of the stories that are important to us. We even got to interview Michael Barakiva!

I'm currently working on a novella about a group of coyotes and wolves fighting each other to prove who is actually the superior species. It's more of an absolutely ridiculous tale (almost stream of consciousness) told from the perspective of one of the coyotes. A human comes into the coyotes' forest, scares one of them, and then the coyotes follow him to Long Island, NY, in an epic quest to exact vengeance.

I'm looking forward to chatting with other writers and continuing to hone my skills even more!

    Det Del Dragons,

Welcome to the forum. I wrote a post-apocalyptic fantasy novel as well, set a couple thousand years in the future, actually the First Civilization's Legacy Series. Despite that similarity, I strongly suspect our tales are quite different.

Glad you joined us here and hope your podcast project takes off, along with your (and Izzy's) writing.

    Terry
