    New to the forum

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by C.J. Hadwin, Apr 10, 2013.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, and basically just putting my feelers out to meet some fellow writers. I'm currently writing a fiction novel, and poetry, and music, and pretty much anything else that can be constituted as "written" art. Ummm...that's basically it. I'll be looking through the forums here for a bit, to see if there's any work on here that I can relate to. Hope everyone is having a great week!

    Welcome, C.J.!
Someone's gonna say it, so it may as well be me -- don't say "fiction novel." Just say "novel." What's it about?

haha! Chicagoliz, I was actually just recently informed that novel refers to a work of fiction. It's apparently one of the top 20 most incorrectly used words. However, you're right, I'm working on a novel. How opposed are people to reading chapters around here? As opposed to writing a query, I'd be happy to just post up the first chapter or two.

You'll get a welcome message, I think from Lemex, that explains this, but before you do that, you have to give 2 or 3 critiques and make 20 posts. After that, folks are quite happy to give some critique. (And you didn't tell me what the novel is about ;-)

Yes. Please read the rules. Everything is explained there. Especially look at the section called "Posting Your Writing."

You'll qualify before you know it! Just join in some discussions, make a couple of constructive critiques, and things will be great. Good luck!

Awww, look at your wink. I already think you're adorable. ;) I'm pretty sure you mean fiction novel...but I'll let it slide...this time.

It's called The Waterclock. It's a story of a young scholar, named Wynne. For his sixteenth birthday he receives an enchanted waterclock from the local Mystic. The waterclock is accomanied by three books, one which explains it's use, the other tells the famous legend of a hero, and the third, a journal, gifted to him by his sister, who studies at the College of Mystics. Through these books, along with stories told to him by family and friends, as well as through experience alone, he begins to learn of his connection to this particular waterclock, and to a past whose truths have been clouded in myth. His journey becomes a race against time to discover the nature of the waterclock, and his identity, before time itself, and his world, are lost to an oath made by the Mystics long ago. An oath made to the Faeruu'n, a race who fought side by side with the Mystics once, to save the world of Khaa'l, a race who must now remove Khaa'l from the fabric of time and space in order to save their own world. He embarks a journey where every action made affects the past, present, and future simultaneously, unknowing that he is the only person that can stand between an entire world being forgotten, and peace. Every tale is meaningful, every face is important, and every second counts. As long as the waterclock ticks, there is hope...but as is the fate of all things, even time, must come to an end.

Or something like that...that's my first attempt at explaining what it's about...I'll post the first couple chapters when I'm able to do so. :)

To Mistrel: Indeed, we had similar rules at my old forum, I'll make sure to participate as much as possible. :)

Welcome to Writing Forums, C.J. Hadwin!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. The requirements of the Writing Workshop don't apply to the contests, so new members are allowed (nay, encouraged!) to get stuck in and enter! We also have a growing short story club (think book club, but with short stories!), which you can find stickied in the Book Discussion forum.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
