    Help required: Staging an 'exercise'

Discussion in 'Military Fiction Discussions' started by Lifeline, Aug 1, 2017.

Yeah, I'm writing. Or I would, if I could figure out how to stage an exercise, without Kay knowing that it'd be an exercise. See, it's supposed to be real for him. Everyone else is in on the secret. As far as Kay knows, he's alone and the only one who can do something.

Problem is, that if Kay's not aware that it's an exercise, when he believes the situation and danger is real, he'd use any means to resolve the situation, up to killing with whatever he can find/use/has. And I don't want the other side getting seriously hurt, and I want Kay to succeed—rescuing someone/more than one. I've not yet made up my mind on numbers.

Any ideas are appreciated. Let's start the brainstorm :D

The military doesn't really do that - for the reason you outline .... even in special forces SERE training which is pretty realistic the candidates know its not real.

Better to not let the reader know its an exercise until they think he or another MC are dead or something similar

:meh: Another post I didn't see. Have to talk to Wrey. This is not good, that I don't get updates on posts in our group.

Anyway: Thanks @big soft moose , exactly what I eventually arrived on my own :)
