The edit button goes away after about 30 minutes for new members, which I recently learned is an anti-spam feature. In time, you'll be allowed to edit your posts well after you've posted them.
Well, I couldn't find the actual post, but basically the purpose of preventing new members from editing after 30 minutes is to keep companies/spammers from posting totally legitimate posts, then going back and editing in an advertisement. I've forgotten the details on how it all works (and I read it like, last week!), but that's the basic idea.
You could grovel and beg a mod. They like laughs as much as anyone. But yeah, so you made a mistake, it happens, no worries, welcome aboard.
