Hey Everyone! I'm joining this site because of a recent world-building hobby I've gained and want to learn to write coherent stories to fit those worlds. I'm interested in Fantasy-Adventure for the most part. Stuff like high fantasy, urban fantasy, Cultivation, LitRPG; generally anything with an esoteric power system and preferably a well-flushed system that the reader can logically follow (Unbound by Nicoli Gonnella or Dragon Heart by Kirill Klevanski are two examples I've recently binged). But I also enjoy psychological stories that take steps into philosophy and try to elicit raw emotions like in some Tragedies. I'm planning on writing, or re-writing, a story I wrote some of in high school. I want it to be the starting point of a multiversal setting that makes even some fanfics canon, like SCP stories in a way. It's about a "main character" that doesn't ever appear except through the POV characters' references to it as a Host for their souls. So this background MC is pretty much going to different realities, plucking some souls they find unique from them, and putting them in different worlds (sometimes with or without their previous memories) to observe their emotions in every infinitely possible scenario. You can think of it as an emotionless God machine researching emotions through an exhaustive test of infinite possibilities. But, sadly, I'm not nearly good enough as a writer to bring the beginning of that story to fruition without some practice first. Hence why I'm here! I'm planning on writing some short stories of future events in this "God-machine hosting souls" plot as well as asking for advice on better world-building or descriptive writing on hard-to-define stuff. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas with y'all. Peace!
Welcome, 7G3P - if you're looking for practice, you have come to the right place. Be sure to check out the story-writing contests and the writers' Workshop. BTW, I like your photo. I did read the Life of Johnson by Boswell and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very interesting. I'll look forward to it all and to getting to know you through your writing and posts here! Welcome!
