    The Newbie Tango

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by T_LeeaF, Jun 13, 2008.

    Hi there, everyone~
I'm not terribly good at these introductory things, but here goes ...

My online name is T_LeeaF, though I respond to a slew of various oddish nicknames. I go by Leea (mostly), but I'm not terribly picky about what I'm called. If all else fails, "Hey, you!" tends to do the trick.

I live out in the middle of nowhere, hopelessly lost in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. Currently, I'm renting a cozy little house with my Partner In Crime and our too many cats. Admitting to just how many fine feline friends actually roam our property would make me twitch a bit, so I won't do that, but suffice to say there are ... enough.

    Some random things about me:
There is often too much blood in my caffeine stream - Nocturnal by choice; daylight functional (using the term loosely here) by necessity - Collector of books, journals, pens and pretty paper - Artisty-type, poety-type, writey-type - A consumer of yummy coffees and teas - Ever fascinated in the world around and beyond, I flounce through life with a perpetually open mind (that airs out the moths and dustbunnies, you see) - Not much affection for soda - Love/hate relationship with Oreos - Enough stuffed penguins to sink a ship - Laptop dependent - A fondness for posters with snarky sayings on them - Despises board games, yet always seems to win.

Age-wise, I'm 24 (although granted, sometimes I find myself feeling much older than that). I grew up in the country (and thought it was boring), so I moved to the city (and thought it was dirty) and finally ended up in the mountains (which is too far away from civilization to be convenient, but the cats keep it interesting and the dirt stays under the growing things, where it belongs). Walking, hiking, cooking and nature watching are some other hobbies of mine. My tastes in books, movies and music tends to be wildly diverse. As a general rule, I'll give anything a try at least once.

My writing tends to trot along through the scifi/fantasy genre, though lately I've been trying harder to branch out. It's always fun to try something new, right? Search engines are good for that... which is ultimately how I ended up here. (Hooray!)

Just peeking around the forum, I'm seeing some great threads with writing exercises, tips and all sorts of interesting things that are waking up my Muse. Sooooooo, I'm going to wrap this up and go read things now.

Thank You for reading my fully ramblematic introduction.
    Cookies for all?
    :)

Thank you for all the kind welcomes! :D Coming to a new forum tends to be a little intimidating for me, but wow! This was just wonderful. Thank you again~

You can have any kind of cookie you like, everyone! :)
Mmmm, do those white chocolate chip ones sound good, though. I bake those quite a bit and oh, are they ever tasty. I'm getting a cookie craving over here! lol

Hello Leea, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
