    Hello from NY!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Angelica, Mar 9, 2015.

My name is Jay and I'm a labor and delivery nurse in one of the busiest hospitals in NYC. I originally majored in Criminal Justice and minored in English but after working in the field and trying to balance family life I decided to go back to school and change careers. My life has been a tragedy, a comedy, a romance, a thriller and at times has been sprinkled with a little paranormal. The stories I could tell are limitless which is why I guess I'm here. I look forward to getting to know the members here.

Hi Angelica, and welcome to the forum. :)

Wow, have to tip my hat; a career change sounds like a brave move! I hope you're happier in your current job. I've heard nurses work long hours and it's really a demanding job. Do you have any plans or specific ideas for a story already? :)

Here's our New Member Guide to get you started.

    Have fun!

Hello Kat! Thank you for your response. Changing careers was definitely a terrifying experience. By far, nursing school was one of the most difficult tasks I have ever accomplished and I did it all while my husband was deployed and my children were toddlers. Although I love my new profession, I miss the extensive writing I did in the criminal justice field. Nursing is extremely demanding and since I work the night shift, where everything seems to happen all at once, there are many a times I have prayed for morning to come to end the madness. After some very frightening things have happened in my life where my family and I had to be removed from our home and placed in protective custody, I had more than a few people tell me I should write a book because I couldn't possibly make such things up. That, accompanied by experiences I've had living in a big city and working in a municipal hospital, have inspired me to finally write those stories that were only mentioned over lunch dates and late night get togethers. I'm ready to share and what better place than a writer's forum.

    Jay

That sounds terrifying! On the other hand, writing can also be a good outlet for emotions. Plus, it seems that one just can't tell enough stories of NYC. Must be a fascinating city -- there're more people over there than in my entire home country :p.

Anyway, I wish you luck on your journey, and hopefully we'll be able to help you get started. You can try e.g. writing prompts, writing contests, or, of course, ask anything that's on your mind regarding plotting, setting, characters, writing software etc. :)
