Hi, I want to improve my writing skills.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Brandt, Dec 9, 2021.

    Hi people.

Fiction of adventure has always been an inspirational passion for me throughout the years. Ever since I was in high school, I have been watching lots of adventure movies and anime, reading adventure books and playing adventure games.

What fascinates me particularly the most about writing in an adventure setting is that, you can basically insert any side-genre to your writing. Romance if you feel like it? Just put a twisted love plot to your adventure! Fantasy? A little supernatural mystery on a journey never hurts! Even slice-of-life? You can basically take a seat back for a portion of your adventure and let your protagonist settle in a place and see what happens! The scale is too wide to not take advantage of.

It has been about ten years that I, in an amateurish way, have been writing adventure stories which I keep excessively private, because I don't like sharing what I write. After all, I get everything from what I read and watch, and I make my own original work out of it. This is not something I am doing professionally, so I just like to be chill and relaxed while I am doing this.

That being said, I often end up being curious about "how I could write it better". When I explain the setting, I always feel like something could be... better to picture? So this time, before I start my last inspirational adventure story, I wanted to get some insights and opinions online, and I think these forums could be very helpful for that regard!

My favorite adventure game is the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It just gives me too much of an inspiration to create a setting of my own, and insert my own legend in it. I also love the Pokémon world, although I like it better when it is somewhat "darker" than what it is today.

My favorite adventure book is the Maze Runner series. However, although it is not classified as adventure, Harry Potter series is just as great. My favorite book is "The Half-Blood Prince". The way Dumbledore discovers and reveals Voldemort's past through the book with Harry was quite interesting to read for me. An unpopular opinion; I never fell crazy over "Lord of the Rings" series. They are not bad, they just don't impress me as much as most other books.

My favorite adventure series are Pokémon, Deltora Quest and the Tower of God. For some reason, I find anime series to be a better opportunity for the adventure settings than the real-world movies. But that is just me.

English is my second language, so I hope to have explained myself well enough.
Thank you for reading my introduction.
