    Hello

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by CyanideBreakfast, Sep 14, 2012.

Hello everyone. Ok so I'm pretty rubbish at these introductions but here I go anyway!

I'm called Jeni and I live in Scotland, near Glasgow. I'm here because I'm an aspiring writer, partway through writing my first novel. I think I've always wanted to be a wrier but it's taken me until this year and failing university to realise that. Anyways! Anne McCaffrey and Terry Pratchett are my literary heros and it is because of the latter (and my dad introducing me to his work at a young age) that I want to be a writer.

Anyways, I also have a horse on half loan, go to pole fitness classes (it's a little bit like pole dancing except we're not sleazy or dirty, we're doing it for fitness) and it is great fun! I'm also slowly psyching myself into training up to take part in Race for Life next year.
I also love rock and metal music and will go on about it at length and, in addition to the horse who I honestly do love (he has issues) I have 4 hamsters, all Syrian who mostly adore my parents even if I feed them and clean them and love them! And I accidentally adopted a dog and a cat from my boyfriend. They are his, but when I'm there they love me more than him. It's very amusing!

I think that's everything I have to say. I'm not actually a very exciting person...or maybe I am. Who knows. Anyways...I really hope being here helps give me motivation to keep up writing my novel when I lose the drive and I hope you can help me make it the best it can possibly be! Oh, and help point me in the right direction as far as publishing goes when I get around to that stage!

I got "Hi, I'm Jeni, a pole dancing metalhead who collects animals and also dabbles in the fine arts of beating your face on a keyboard until something resembling a story pops out."

Awesome! You'll fit right in! =D

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Jeni!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

I had fully intended posting some stuff up here for critique but then I saw the post that it could potentially harm my chances at getting published so now I don't know. I did read a lot and I've yet to make up my mind...but...I do need critique from people who will get what I'm doing rather than friends and family who perhaps don't take it as seriously as they should =/ I have other pieces of writing I can post, I suppose...

You could leave your best ideas to not be published, and then write some exercises for posting for critiques. If you did that, then at least you could find out what aspects of your style and craft you need to improve.

I have tried a lot of styles over the years. I still have my original version of my story available, I could do some improvements on that and post it up. It's pretty unrecognisable from the present version of it (changed from 3rd person past tense to 1st perseon present) and a lot of characters have changed in it. I might do that for some views =)

    Thanks!
