    Senior newbie

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by donwin4, May 29, 2008.

Good day friends- As a newbie with limited short story training or experience I am humbled. I am 79 & have been a teacher & a manager in the law enforcement field. I have had three non-fiction books published that collectively had considerable success both in sales and profit. I self published two chap books of poems & very short stories for friends & family- (They said they enjoyed them but then what else would they say?)
I am very open to help in my latest efforts in SS writing. I will value anything offered. I come down here to FL 17 years ago from PA & now live in the Tampa bay area, am retired, was a long time sailor (owned 14 boats over my lifetime or I might have some wealth today)
Thank you for allowing me into this group and for any help you can give me. Don :)

Hello Don, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

welcome aboard!... you just won the title of our 'eldest of the eldest' [unless an older elder is hiding his/her age]... i've lived in st. pete, known some sailors in my time, so if you ever want to chat with a near contemporary [will be 70 in sept], or if you need any one-on-one help, just drop me a line any time...

    love and hugs, maia
