    Hello, I'm Byron.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Trapped Creativity, Aug 8, 2008.

Hey there, I'm Byron. This appears to be a very active writing community and I'm so glad that I found this place! I'm passionate about writing, but when I write stories, I tend to ramble, leave out important detail, and force descriptions. I never seem to have a solid plot. I know that I'm fairly young and haven't experienced much of life, but seeing other young writers here succeed motivates me. I probably should read more, but most of the books I start, I never finish...

    Advice?

Byron first off I should say welcome, and secondly once you start posting and reviewing things on this site you will soon improve your writing and ability to form a story. On a side note with the not finishing books you start well I had problems with when I was younger (about 11 or so mainly because I am dyslexics) but later on I came back and flew through them (mainly Tolkien). So sometimes you just have to muscle it through is all I can say.

Hello Byron, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Welcome to the forum! the forum is really helpful for all types of writing and all little issues. Just like Andros-Exodus said, once you start posting and reviewing your writing will improve really quickly. I think you'll really like the forum! Welcome again!

We've certainly got plenty to offer as a forum goes with competitions and various other aspects.

Also feel free to offer a short story for the forum anthology The Captains Table

On that note Welcome to the forums.
