Yup, I'm new here like a lot of people. Many have probably come and gone in this forum and I'm just one of many human beings in the world ambling along, I guess. Hello, fellow writers. Decided to happen across this site in the hopes of understanding the writer's 'guild' as such in this world of authors and poets and whatnot. I've come up with an idea for a book, called 'The Ramblings of a Human Mind.' It analyzes the inside of my own mind, my constant strive for the answers to questions, in comparison to the reader's and I debate topics, ranging from Religion and Politics, to Inspiration and Love. I have around 2,710 words, which are typed up at this moment and I have much more to complete into my Microsoft Word document. I'm a new writer, and member to this site. I have just began writing as I found myself picking up a pen and a notebook and was intrigued by watching 'Hitler's diaries' on TV. I didn't want to go for the autobiography side of writing, rather wanted to try writing 'bout the in's and out's of a human mind such as my own and how it perceives the world and everyone else in it. I have beliefs of my own, which I share with the readers and they can speculate themselves on what they believe. It's to grab their attention and make them curious of their own world. I like it personally, not to be egotistic, but I find it intriguingly good. I just don't know what to make of it, as this is all very new to me. I'm a 20 year old student from Wales, I'm just studying languages. I came up with this on the flash of inspiration.
Hello Richie, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Fair enough, had no idea. =D Well, anyways. Will review some of the writer's own works, but would love feedback for mine. It's just I don't know where to begin. I have a lot of writing already down, having been feverishly scribbling down my ideas and concepts. Just don't know whether anyone would like to read it, that's all. For all I know, it could be useless. As I've seen from the thread 'Could you be successful off one book?'
