I was having a discussion and it popped up that they saw “I don’t wanna miss a thing” as a love song, and it dawned on me how the context that you hear something first completely changes the interpretation. I thought maybe he’d first heard it on the radio without context, but no he’d seen Armageddon. He simply had no idea the female lead was Steven Tyler’s daughter. I did. He interpreted the lyrics as Ben Afflack’s point of view of her being in love with her, where I interpreted the lyrics as Bruce Willis’ point of view seeing her grow away from him. The climax of the movie is literally Bruce Willis telling Ben to take care of her. Just curious how do you interpret the (likely purposely) vague lyrics?
