The 'care home industry' in the UK has an unfair tainted reputation due to shenanigans of a minority of greedy and selfish individuals. Thankfully there are many people who work in the industry that do have the welfare of the elderly and vulnerable people in their care at heart, and go out of their way to make life as comfortable as possible for them. Unfortunately greed and selfishness has reared its ugly head again - this time by a care home manager. Bognor Regis care home manager who stole £96,000 off elderly residents is jailed for 18 months (msn.com) What are your thoughts?
My thoughts? The scheme persisted over a period of at least six years, and would still be continuing if she hadn't slipped up and been caught. There's no mention of restitution -- and, in fact, the article notes that at least one victim died before she confessed. It may be that "hanging's too good for the likes of her," but nine months of incarceration isn't nearly enough. I would begin with a year behind bars for each year the scheme was in practice.
