Why not use "CDC"..... Center for Disease Control? I'm with Earp, makes me thing its about an identification card (CDC also means "Child Development Center"... so you may still run into confusion)
Not to me either - sounds like some kind of cyber-security thing as @Earp says Or more like VD Clinic which is what it looked like out of the corner of my eye.
eeeeeeh.... the preschool my siblings and I went to on the military base is called the CDC (Child Development Center). In college, the Childhood Psychology course I took had me conducting my research at the campus preschool called the CDC. There is a preschool i have to pass on my way home that sits right next to an elementary school and its called CDC. 3 different states. I'm not saying you are wrong, but its more common than you think
My point, that you confirmed, was that outside a specific profession, teaching, and from your post psychology, it is not common for the average person to know. Most professions have a terminology that is not common to those outside the group.
I'm curious how you would intend to use an Infectious Disease Clinic? A stand-alone clinic would not be sustainable for a generic clinic, only for specific diseases like STD.
I'm in the UK. As well as needing different terminology (for a US magazine submission), standalone clinics here can reach sufficient populations of patients more easily than most other places. Temporary clinics are often used here for extra hospital capacity or during renovations. And yes it does carry a poetically-useful association with disease-ridden sex criminals, but that's no use if nobody's going to understand the phrase. For ID there is this example: https://www.digitalhealth.net/2022/03/find-and-treat-tackling-diseases-london/ with a political nod toward old age flu treatment when really it'll be 100% TB. For the submission, I'll probably go with something else altogether. Three words to explain would be too many.
It seems my opinion isn't quite needed anymore at this point, but I'm still gonna give it because I want to feel like a politician. ID Clinic instantly made me think of some shady cyberpunky hole in the wall where you can illicitly get your implanted ID chip reconfigured, altered, or removed. I don't know if you need a real thing there, but if you'd abbreviate it, IDC sounds pretty official... Just like... CDC. That sounds pretty official too, yeah... And while we're on word association: This made me think back to Monsters Inc.'s Child Detection Agency. Which is extra funny if you're Dutch because we have a major political party best known by its abbreviation CDA. I don't think they hunt children, but... the C stands for Christian, so if your kid's called Christian, vote something else.
