A plot which started from an abduction

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Marius Av, Aug 7, 2017.

    Greetings!

The abduction of a king's little sister in the Middle Ages is a little cliche? I mean, that is the best thing I can think of when it comes about starting my plot. If my idea is not good enough, I need one just as important as the abduction I mentioned before. Something that invokes tension amongst folk and other empires.

In this world of mine, I thought about a well known substance - the mutagenic toxin. It is the reason why creatures like golems and selkies exist, not just because of magic. When a scholar is studying this toxin and adjusts its properties, the substance acquires a new color and some potential danger. Yet the scholar injects the toxin in her blood, curious about how far she made it with her studies. She doesn't transform in anything hideous, but she receives different mental powers. She didn't know it, but at that time she became the first sorceress in the world.

That is the moment when the protagonists have the potential to bring back the little sister of the king. In the wartime, when their journey takes them to lots of uncovered places.

What do you think about this? Are there some cliches you met in other plots? There is something I need to adjust? I would be very grateful for any critiques or suggestions.

    Thank you.

How can sorcery do a better job at rescuing the little sister than regular, careful planning? Is there something more specific about the new powers that can connect in some way to the conflict?

The antagonists of my story would be treasure hunters, tough armored and vile people which are hired to kill troublesome monsters. They will be behind the abduction. I think sorcery would come in handy when it comes to facing such people. I'm sorry if I didn't explain it all.

I think that the basic premise of the novel is a little cliche. But I think with your planning with the powers and the characters can make the story not so much of a cliche. Depends what you do with it in the end I suppose. I would suggest making sure the characters' challenges leading to the ultimate goal not be cliche or typical of this type of story or plot. Best of luck! I'm sure it'll be great!
