    How to gift

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Bakkerbaard, Feb 28, 2025.

This is kinda book related, but it doesn't seem to fit any other subforums. I'll leave it to the mods to move if so desired.

Right, I might have an option to get a book to someone with considerably wider reach than I. Than me? Myself.
What I would like to do is let them pick between paperback or ebook themselves without having me make them pick. Feels more "gifty" that way, you know?
What I'm looking for is a way for them to pick one or the other, and then I pick up the tab. I'm hoping to do this with a direct link of some sort, as a gift card just lets them pick whatever. Plus, it's a woman, and I think sending a gift card would give the wrong impression.

Tried getting this concept across on the Amazon Help chat, but... it's like trying to explain to my mother she doesn't need to print out mails to read them. She sorta gets it, but she's gonna stick with what she knows.

The easiest option is to just give them a paperback. To do that you just buy it from Amazon and put in their address for delivery

there’s no easy way to gift an ebook other than sending them the file to side load onto their kindle

if you want to do this sort of thing regularly there are services that can deliver ebooks to devices but it’s not worth it for a one off

That was my first thought, too. But I found out a while back if I sideload my books onto my own Kobo Libra, it doesn't show the cover. Very weird. It works when I buy it, though. Anyway, first impressions, and all, you know? ;o)

But, she is the sort of lady who has an Amazon wishlist. If she's interested in a book, I'll make it work.

Mmyeah, that's not going to happen.
Ladies who share Amazon wishlists are not the sort of ladies who share email addresses. ;o)
