First impression about a (hypothetical) new character

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by thelonelyauthor, May 19, 2024.

    Hello friends,
i just wanted to know what would be your first impression of a (hypothetical) character in a (hypothetical ) story. He would have the following characteristics.
1- He would be a published novelist
2- He would be a polyglot that can speak 8 languages
3- He would be tall (around 6f 4), athletic, dark hair and green eyes (think Lucifer Morningstar with green eyes)
    4- He would boxe recreationally

Now what I am asking is for a first impression as the character appears on the page for the first time. Character development will come later.

Please be as specific as possible.

You can also use the plausibility scale from 1 being very unplausible as a character to 10 being very plausible.

    Thanks you all!

@thelonelyauthor, you've posted the same thread 3 times now.

    This one from 2018:

    https://www.writingforums.org/threads/opinions-about-a-character-in-process.158068/

    And this one from 2020:

    https://www.writingforums.org/threads/first-impressions-about-character.167738/

The first two threads were nearly identical and elicited similar feedback. This new one in 2024 is the basically the same with a few things rewritten. What are you hoping to accomplish here? I'm beginning to think this has nothing to do with writing. If it does, it appears you've been in a highly specific developmental hell over 6 years trying to figure out the same guy, which seems unlikely.

    So what's up?

Well his number of languages has gone from six to eight, so some progress is being made there.

The character reminds me of a couple of lines from Dorothy Parker:

People Who Do Things exceed my endurance; God, for a man that solicits insurance!

The name Marty springs to mind.

    Can't think why.
