I abandoned script writing in favor of short stories a while back, and hope to write a novel(s?) before I croak.
It's a noble goal! I feel short stories are the quickest way to a great novel. Gives you somewhere to work out your voice and style.
I'm a much bigger fan of short stories vs. novels. I don't know, short stories feel more like art to me in both creating and reading them. If you've got a flare for the short form, don't abandon it. But good luck on all your writing endeavors, and welcome to the forum.
