    Hello!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Koopman, Aug 30, 2012.

    Hello everyone :)

My name is Paul, a name that seems to have it's availability preemptively stolen from me, hence I had to think of something special for a user name. :)
I've been writing since I was 14 years old, I started with poetry, songs, wrote my first screenplay when I was 16.

Unfortunately things have been going downhill after that and I lost my spark, the energy, to complete much after. I had reached rock bottom a few years ago and things where tough, but, not anymore :)
Things are falling back into place in my live and I've managed to reinvent my passion for writing, and thinking creatively.
I find myself lying in bed at night fantasizing about different worlds and all that kinda pretty stuff :)

So I've started on a book, two days ago, and I discovered that I'm in fact still lacking a bit of confidence and figured that it might be a good idea to find a nice community where I could learn a thing or two. Maybe even teach a thing or two :)
Mainly I sometimes think my grammar and general English might be at fault, I never had a proper education beyond the constant whimpering of 14 year old tauren druids telling me how much of a noob I am :)

Also, I think it might be nice to meet some new people, people with the same interest as I.

Anyways, enough about me :) Hello everyone!

    -Paul

P.S. I have three cats and they are awesome! One has half a tail but that's a story for another time :)

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Paul!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

    Thank you losthawken. :)
In answer to your question, I have absolutely no idea :)
I'm totally in love with television, series and films, so I dabbled in screenwriting, but I've been in theater also and I love to act and I'd like to write a play someday :)
But I'm a gamer as well, I love big long story driven games with excessive depth and side stories like the original Fallout series and the Deus Ex series. Final Fantasy VII was a great experience also, and in light of that I'd like to write a game too :p

There's just so many options! :D

As per genre, I have idea's for everything. I'm personally a big fan of the ''mind fuck'' genre, as it's so elegantly put in the layman's tongue, David Lynch being an example, the classic Mulholland Drive and one of his latest films; Inland Empire are just sublime. I loved V for Vendetta, the writing in that is just *GAWK*.
Charlie Kaufman's Being John Malcovic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (bought me a copy of Bartlet's straight after :D) But also a big fan of sci-fi :)

    How about you?:)

And thanks for the copy/paste Banzai :):)

I'm a fantasy/sci-fi kind of guy myself. I like intricately involved and rationalized worlds where dramatic messages about life and living in this world can be given that couldn't be done any other way.

If your into gaming, and fiction we have a wonderful land where the two are combined here a the forums (which I also happen to moderate). Check out the RPG sub-forum if your interested :)

That's very specific :) I must admit I have a rational mind, I always seem to base my fantasies on logic. I like logic. I like how it makes things (for me at least) feel more real, more plausible, gives you the ability to connect with it on a deeper level. :)
I had actually noticed those forums! :) I was planning to take a gander tomorrow. Bit late now ;)

Been nice meeting you losthawken :)
