I’m looking for an old story.

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by NobodySpecial, Apr 3, 2021.

I read this story years and years ago, and can’t remember a title- not even if that would save my life. It’s a story about self sacrifice. The long and the short of it is a woman is deathly ill, and bed ridden. In her fever fueled delirium she points to a tree outside the window beside her bed and proclaims when the last leaf falls from that tree she’ll die. Before a winter storm hits her husband goes out to the tree and tapes a few leaves to the tree. In the morning, she see’s leaves are still on the tree, and in time starts to recover. But as she’s getting better her husband falls ill with pneumonia; he got sick being out in that winter storm securing the leaves.

Does anyone recall such a story? It was old when I read it, and that was probably 25-30 years ago.

Probably 'The Last Leaf' by O. Henry.

That’s not quite the story as I remembered it,(it has been a long time since I read it) but that is the one. Thanks a bunch.

    I’ve never heard of this.

But I’m liking the sound of this story.

There’s a similar movie I once watched with the same concept.

I think it was this one:
