Hi, looking to meet fellow creative writers

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by IasminDragon, Oct 8, 2020.

    Hi all

Hopefully my message says it all. Jas here, journalist/features writer from the UK. I'm a passionate writer, traveller and reader (not always in that order) and I want to combat some of the lockdown loneliness by joining an Internet forum. All the writing groups in my area meet exclusively on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, presumably to avoid the interference of regular working humans, so that isn't really an option for me. Plus, you know, Covid.

I've poked around with this sort of thing before and some previous forums I used died a death and moved onto Discord. I've tried the Discord server thing, but the folks there didn't seem too serious about it (anyone who has a higher word count on their writing chat room than their actual novel might want to consider how their time is divided) and the demographic is often quite young.

I write non-fiction for work and got a little concerned it was grinding down some of my creativity. I hope not because I like to write the most absurd fantasy stories after 10pm and at weekends, which is about the only time I ever get chance to do it. I want to contribute and critique and in turn be critiqued and am quite serious about publishing, so appreciate an older and more experienced audience. I'm also just keen to connect with some funny people and discuss passions with passionate people.

Thanks for reading and look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome aboard! I'm sure you'll have a good time here. If you haven't, take a moment to check out New Member Quick Start and Forum Rules.

Hey! I resemble that remark! It can be easy to get sucked in here, one of these days I'll get back to my WIP.

    I hope.

    Anyway, have fun.

Hi there! I just joined not too long ago. Nice to meet you. I'd love to read some of your work. The workshop forum thing is new to me, so I'm going to give it a fair shot, before I make a decision. So far, I wish I'd get more feedback and faster, but I'm also a newbie so...I'm trying to wait it out. Don't be a stranger!

Welcome to the forums Jas. I also joined as a distraction from the wonderful world of COVID! You are definitely not alone in that. :D

Feel free to make yourself at home. I hope you have fun here. :)

Haha, I totally get the temptation to spend more time talking about writing than actually doing it... I guess joining here makes me guilty too? :p

Thanks! I'm going to have to check it out. Definitely keen to contribute and do the same. I'll look out for your work. I know feedback can be slow to come when we all have work and home lives to lead at the same time!

Thanks Kyle! Can't believe how many months it's been now!
