Hi, in your opinion what are some examples of well-paced novels? Here are some novels that I found to be well-paced: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Mark Haddon) The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold) The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (John Boyne) Number the Stars (Lois Lowry) The Giver (Lois Lowry) Plain Truth (Jodi Picoult) The Other Boleyn Girl (Philippa Gregory) The Red Tent (AnitaDiamant) The Joy Luck Club (Amy Tan) A Question of Guilt: A Novel of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the Death of Henry Darnley (Julianne Lee) Their Eyes Were Watching God (Zora Neale Hurston) Some of these are literary and/or great novels, others are not well-written but (IMHO) they are all well-paced.
Surely it depends what pace you like? If all you enjoy is action/adventure, you are likely to find a carefully written bildungsroman terribly slow. If you love literary fiction, you are likely to find that action/adventure stuff terribly rushed.
Two that I've read recently stand out. Both are pretty fast paced, but the pacing works well in each case. The Winter Queen ~ Boris Akunin The Man Who Was Thursday ~ G.K. Chesterton
The most well paced book I've ever read is The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron, it's fantasy by the way.
Have to add "The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared" by Jonas Jonasson to this. I have almost finished reading this. A story that works both in current time and back story - both elements cracking along at a wonderful pace and still gives a vivid impression of the personalities involved.
