I just made a new blog post and tried to add it to one of my series, but the controls don't seem to be there anymore. If I remember right (and I think I do), they should be right in the button called Blog Entry Tools. But all that's there now are Edit Entry, Delete Entry, and Change Entry Dates. I could swear this is where the link used to be that said Add Entry to Series (or something similar). Is this one of those things that requires Daniel to emerge from his hibernation cavern every third leap year? Can our resident Moose take care of it? Or am I just completely wrong about how to add an entry to a series (quite possible)? In case it's Moose-fixable, I want to add my latest blog post to the series called My Explorations into POV.
I can have a look but not til Tuesday as I’m away from home base with only a phone and I don’t do back end stuff from Mobile in case I fat finger the site out of existence I suspect I know what the underlying issue is, in short it’ll be to do with your usergroup permissions
Oh sigh... saying our controls are a piece of crap is putting it lightly, i may just have to toggle it off and on again four times after sacrificing a virgin spamalope by moonlight or something, bear with me ETA refresh your screen and try it again, i may have fixed it
Is it working for you yet chaps? (This being exmouth in the middle of the summer I'm having a hell of a time finding a virgin, but i sacrificed a number of spammers and reset all the options for the contributor user group)
Okay i'm going to create a new user group and give it every possible blog permission except the moderator ones, then i'll add you to it...you'll wind up with a new banner for a bit but it will only be until we find out if this works
Okay try again... you might need to log out and clear your cookies then log in again for the changes to take effect...it may alsao take half an hour or so (the server updates every thirty minutes)
It now also allows me to Manage Reply Bans (or however thats worded), but still Add Entry to Series isn't there. I haven't tried to log out yet (afraid I'm not sure what my password is, though I have a pretty good idea) and I'd need to google how to clear my cookies (I have to google it every few years). Looks like it's time for me to do some work now. It seems odd that it didn't show up along with Manage Reply Bans.
If you clear your cookies it will log you out of here... and everywhere else. Use a password manager. They're handy.
I just cleared cookies for this site, and then logged back in. I'll try it again after a half hour goes by, but since Manage Reply Bans did come up, I suspect this isn't going to work.
You shouldn't have manage reply bans - that's a moderator function... probably means that i ticked the wrong box (all it means is you can ban certain people from looking at your blogs) However manage own series is definitely selected so if you can't then i don't know whats up. I'll try adding manage own series to the other usergroups in case you're inheriting a fucked up setting...it maybe that member or new member has never rather than not selected set (items that are not selected are inherited from the group you are in before but should be overidden by an always for bloggerator but might not be...) did i mention this thing is a PoS? the only other thing i can try is to give you 'manage series by anyone' which is a moderator function - you seem like a trust worthy guy so I'll take your word that you won't fuck with anyone else's blog if you want to try that. If that doesnt work either I'll see if admin of other fora can advise how to fix it, but it maybe that its not moose fixable
I always thought that seemed a little strange, but it's been there from the beginning. I assume anyone who has a blog has that on it.
What I'd do in Moose' shoes is check if other members have that function Xoic is lacking. That way I'd know if it's a Xoic-only thing or a thing that affects the entire usergroup. Not an admin. Just an idea. I've troubleshooted a gazillion technical things in my life. Isolating the problem is the best thing to do.
This all might be related to the fact that nobody can start a new blog now? And if I recall right, that's an Only Daniel Can Fix It thing.
That would be a good idea except that permissions aren't allocated to users they're allocated to user groups, so there's nowhere in the back end where i can view a screen that says "Xoic has xyz permissions"... only to see which user groups hes in which is the first thing i checked. The underlying problem is that XF has a native blog function, but for whatever reason last year Daniel installed UBS Blogs as a plug in, meaning we now have two blog control panels and they play about as well together as a bunch of hells angels visiting a monastery Deep sigh... anyway What Ive done is given every user group (except the banned or unconfirmed ones) explicit permission to 'manage own series' and "move entries by self to own blogs"..and turned all the never's in both control panels for the new members group to inherits If that hasnt fixed it don't know what else to do aside from trying giving xoic mod powers in the blog section only Not exactly - I can fix it but when i do it also gives blogging rights to brand new members meaning a spam fest can occur...ive turned it back on for now in case it is the issue...if we get a bunch of blog spam with 6 mods and two admins its not as big a deal as when there were 3 and 1
Anyway - give it another 30 minutes then try it again...i'm going to write some stuff, but if its still broken in the morning we can consider our options
"Moose-ton, we have liftoff!" Yes, it's fixed now. Thank you and many thanks to all sacrificed virgins and goats and whatever else contributed.
Lol, I was able to create a blog while all of this was happening. Was about to head to sleep but glad I didn't before that function was turned back off. Thanks @Xoic for having difficult blog problems. (Is that a really mean thing to say? Probably but thanks anyway).
the only problem being that i don't know which button i pressed to fix it...really i should go back and turn things off one at a time till i find the problem but i'll give that large amount of CBA. the proviso of course being that i haven't broken anything else in the process, last time i finger banged the blog control it was like 'on the monday morning the gas man came to call' for about three weeks
