Well, I gave it ten minutes of my time. I found it mostly over-instrumentated and largely incoherent. Nothing original or engaging, as far as I could see.
I came back, because I was curious if anyone could actually get through it. I don't even think the writer knows what the song is about. I couldn't possibly focus on words with the chaotic hammering of instruments. But, hey, I wanted to be fair, so I looked up the lyrics. I can't even get through reading the lyrics. They're as chaotically disturbing and jumpy as the 'music' is. What is the point to this thread? Just tell us what it is we're supposed to be inferring so you can correct us. I'm with @Homer Potvin I can't find any redeeming qualities. But if you like it, good for you!
Oh, the point of this thread is just to share my musical inspirations. I don't have anyone to talk to in real life so I figured, here is a good place to put this! It's a song by Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez Lopez from a concept album called Frances the Mute. The story is supposedly about a man who is looking for his mother. He thinks she was a prostitute and tries to find answers. There's a very eerie twist in the story too because at the end he realizes that he just had a thirteen second acid trip that felt like a whole lifetime. I'm sure there's websites that can explain it better than me but I'm impressed by their ability to utilize instruments and tell a complex story. I get a lot of inspirations from them.
I see. It's good that you find inspiration. I don't find them inspiring, but to each their own. The whole song, to me, is like one long acid trip. A bad one. But that's just me.
Sounds very 70s, probably the guitar tone. Kinda broke into a Tom Waits moment and then just sort of surged. Very proggy overall with no real verse/chorus at all, so I'm not surprised it's jarring. It's one long song?
Yes it's one long song but it's broken up into pieces that even have their own titles. I love that you're familiar with prog! The kind of inspirations that can write themselves.
I can appreciate songs that actually tell stories, but I couldn't actually get the story from this song. I wonder if anyone can without looking it up on Google. I'll link a song that, I think, does a much better job of telling a clear story. I think @Homer Potvin will appreciate this one.
Yep, yep. My favorite hip hop story song here... it has everything. Characterization, motivation, imagery, misdirection, theme, surprise twist:
I listened to the whole song and I agree, it's definitely a good song with a very twisted story. Wow, great concept.
My thoughts on the OP's song, reminded me of this: But in the same vain of being in the unusual spirit of oddity when it comes to music, something mellower.
