    Memoir vs autobiography

Discussion in 'Non-Fiction' started by jacktheknife, Mar 9, 2011.

    Gentlemen,

I just wanted to mention that I found out that my manuscript isn't a autobiography but a memoir. A memoir is about a specific aspect or episode in the protagonist's life. My story is about a ten year period in my life where I barely survived four attempted murders. After the three brothers who tried to kill me the first time died in prison, five small town policemen did the same thing, three times! I turned the tables on two police departments and put five bad policemen in prison for conspiracy, ie. 99.5 years each.
And I did it alone without a Lawyer but just a keyboard. I don't write fiction this is true. But rather than a autobiography the story is a memoir.
I just wanted to mention that, as memoir is a new concept to me,
a new framework for a story.

    That's all...

adding this for others who may not know the difference:

by contrast, an 'autobiography' tells the story of the writer's life from birth on...
