    Terrifying blank space

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Adam Kalauz, Feb 2, 2017.

Adam sat at his computer screen, thinking. How to make the best impression? how to wow them with his wit and intelligence?

Well, he thought, it's sure to just flow off the screen, right? These are smart people. They're writers, they're not here because they want to learn betterer grammar. He immediately supressed a string of expletives that swam through his trian of thought, and pinched his nose, to force himself to focus.

What are the key facts, what are the things they need to know? It's an introduction, not an essay. Okay, he reasoned, location! People connect with that. He had just seen a post by a woman from Belfast, and immediately felt a kinship. What else.

He adjusted his position in his chair, hands poised over the keyboard. Nothing. His mind was blank, he would never get this done. A stream of pointless facts flowed through his mind, his job in finance, his wife and son, his general geekery, but all of it just seemed so innane, so pointless. He tried to put himself in the shoes of someone reading it, and despaired. Who would want to read about that?

He knew what he wanted to talk about. The book. The BOOK! But it was obviously crass to bring that up in the very first post...

Okay, someone has to institute a prize for most original intro. Well done, @Adam Kalauz.

He is T-minus two months and counting, will join us hopefully in April. I couldn't find a succinct way to get that into the story, (and I wasn't trying to write it to death, just having fun!)

it's always encouraging to hear that there is an end after the first few months though.

    What is T-minus?

But from the rest of your post, I shall assume your son is still swimming in your wife's tummy! How exciting! Ah, the newborn phase is probably easier than the toddler phase... :dead: Mine currently climbs on the oven - thankfully not tried to grab the pans on the stove yet. Whereas a newborn - they just poop, feed and sleep really :D Got a name for your son yet?
