Can I have a character vengefully yell my Protag's name without it looking comical? The story is supposed to be kind of dark with a bit of dark humor in it but I REALLY want to insert a moment where one of the villains (there are several) yells his name out vengefully.
I guess like with most things in writing it would completely depend on how you write it and making the context not seem comical. If you can find a way to do it that doesn't evoke exactly what @John Calligan posted then go for it, but as a reader if I saw someone yelling the protagonist's name I'm always going to imagine them staring at the sky and shaking a fist. It's always going to feel a little comical because of that cliché. I think quietly snarling it can be a lot more effective, and having it as part of a broken sentence (as in they start to curse them but choke on their words whilst shaking with fury - 'Protag, you little...' 'protag, I swear!...') Or yell something else to vent - I can't say I've ever had the urge to yell the name of someone I'm angry with but then again I'm not a super villain
I don't know what the characters' names are, but if you could stretch out one of the vowels (presuming there ARE vowels) and/or maybe put the name in all-caps. The difference between Captain Kirk yelling, "Khan!" or "KHAN!" or screaming, "Kha-a-a-an!" or "KHA-A-N!"
