That'll last right up to the return from honeymoon when it will be replaced by "what the fuck have I done ?"

Is this a thing anywhere else: you make food your family, set up the table real nice, make coffee, pastries, what have you. They come over, and this happens:

    *offers coffee*
"Just half a cup, please, so there'll be enough for everyone."
"There is enough for everyone, you can have a full cup."

    *offers pastries*
"I can eat this off my napkin, so there won't be dirty dishes"
"We have a dish washer. You can use a plate. I have set these plates here for a reason."

"Do you have paper towels? I don't want to waste such pretty napkins."
"Those napkins were bought for that very reason: you use them to wipe your mouth."

"Oh I can clean up the table so you don't have to."
    "No!! You're the freaking guest!!!"

(There is a Finnish word for this behavior: kursailla, and I hate it when people act like that. No one eats the last piece of cake. No one takes the first piece of cake. No one comes to the table at the first call, oh no, you have to tell people 'coffee is ready!' five times etc. etc.)

No. My friends and I arrive, grunt an acknowledgement to the host and head for the food. The ensuing scene resembles one of those wildlife documentaries where a pride of lions are feeding on a wildebeest. Once every morsel has been eaten and every plate licked, every bottle drained,we belch loudly, offer our compliments to the host, then head to the pub.

Anyone who hangs back out of decorum is going to starve, as the rest of us feed like a wild beast on its kill

That's what Prince Philip said to...

    *coughs*

Out of a sense of deference to my betters I will refrain from making a vulgar implication about our new princess and fellatio.

No, no, no... don't refrain, expand, please. Those are two beautiful nouns that deserve to be side by side in as many references as possible.

    @LostThePlot Such a tease.

    ---

Thought this minute-long snippet was interesting. My dad and I actually used to do the exact same thing when I was a little kid, reading from the Encyclopedia Britannica together!

Well, my experiment in putting a reverse patina on some older dress shoes was a success. However, the success or failure of an experiment does not depend on getting the results you hoped for.

I now know, conclusively, that one particular technique doesn't work.

    Success!

    Dangit, that looks delicious.

I don't even remember the last time I had/made sukiyaki.

I actually don't think I've ever cooked kushiage myself. I generally get them premade from stands and places.

    It's probably so delicious.

    I hate you so much.

Kushiya Monogatari (commonly referred to as "Kushiya") has 90 minutes all-you-can eat, all-you-can drink (beer, wine, and highballs basically, along with a soft drink bar) for ~35USD, which is a very good deal.

Reading that makes me sound like Scrooge McDuck, so let me assure you that not-so-fine but very intoxicated dining is a passion I share with Mrs. A, and a substantial portion of our income goes towards it :)

ETA any time you want to make me feel jealous, go to your local basic supermarket and take a picture of the bread aisle :(

It is always worth it to see the wonderful self haircut of a 64 yr old man.
So you ditched the pony in favor of the scraggly pixie. Way to go?????
But it sure is funny as hell. To bad I don't have a fancy phone so that I
could share the epic fail with you all, so I hope you can glean from context. :D

There are people called "barbers." They are rather useful and reasonably priced. Look into it. :D

Peanut butter and boysenberry? Everyone knows: only strawberry jam on a PB&J.

I don't like strawberry jam. I like boysenberry preserves.

It's what mama used to always buy & make our lunches with (if she made PB&J) so after 25 years, I'm full indoctrinated—you start eating normal food at 2, right?

I was already sad I had to buy jam. It's not the same without the seeds & pulp.
