I was wondering if there is any lore or myth about spiritual creature that may be summoned, or otherwise, exist in parallel to our own world? Perhaps creatures that only certain people can see? The idea struck me, along those lines, for my fantasy story and I would very much appreciate any direction that would lead me to any real world equivalent from ancient mythology that I could draw from.
Faeries are often thought to live in a sort of parallel world to our own, and humans with the Sight can see them. Also some animals, and if you look through an adderstone, etc Not generally particularly summonable, though.
I not sure where you are going with this, it seems to be taking concepts from multiple areas and trying to meld them together. Very interesting sources and I thank you for them. But I think what I'm looking for is spiritual creatures from animalistic lore, from Celtic and Shamanistic cultures. The creatures, in my story, are helpful and guide those that can see them.
Sorry to tell you this, but most folkloric creatures were basically bastards. Right down to fairy being more about stealing children than being nice, Leprechauns are from the same group that inspired the white walkers in game of thrones, the best thing I can recommend is looking at Irish Mythology, which is Gaelic.
