Is it ok to cut stuff out of Fanfiction when adaptating a plot line

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Laura wise, Feb 21, 2015.

Ok I need to explain im trying to make a crossover Fanfiction for the youngblood Chronicals and welcome to night vale. The youngblood Chronicals is seris of music videos with a loose plot that kind of reminded me of aspects of welcome to night vale my problem is that some of the plot points of the ybc are stupid. It's not that they don't fit or would co pletely ruins the story they're just dumb and thus may end up on the cutting room floor, the problem? Well there are a lot of purists who will go insane if I cut this stuff out.
Should I cut stuff or leave it to keep others happy?

It's fanfic. Do what you want.

You can always put some sort of "not canon" warning on it, right?

At the end of the day, write what you want, trying to keep others happy will only invariably leave you unsatisfied with your work.
