Below you will find the Lore for this world. Please know I will update this regularly as I will be the only one posting. Please note that the lore below was created by @ps102, @Louanne Learning, @Delusionist and @Gravy collectively. Please see Lore Discussion Thread for full details. Other additions will be properly attributed by name or 'Collective Work'. LAST UPDATE: 12/27/2024 (American Date)
The World and Social Classes By Collective Work (see names above) The premise of this story is simple, in a world where magic and science exist, there is a small tavern where people of all classes gather. But the world outside is becoming more dangerous as the mages are becoming weary and ill. It is only a matter of time before magic disappears and the scientists of the world are trying to unravel its mysteries for the sake of all. The Mage/Scientist Class: the highest class of society. Those who know magic specialize in Earth, Fire, Air, or Water Magic (see Lore Thread). Those who cannot use magic, are scientists who are held in high esteem for their research. The Poet Class: the artists and merchant class. They keep society running and entertained. Farmers are considered Poets and so are workers of all kinds. The Lab Rat Class: Lab rats: lowest class- the outcasts and criminals of society who are used in scientific experiments. Some here have been wronged by the legal system and are sure there is a way out.
The World and World Map Created by @ps102 Okay, here is a first draft of the world map. It's not complete yet... the earth region needs to be made. I'm waiting for some textures to extract from a big archive. I'm trying to keep this simple but meaningful. The map is divided by four regions: Fire, water, air, and earth. Why? Because in ancient times, mages of these four fundamental elements split up into their own lands as tribes. They fought wars, made alliances, and so on... In later more recent times, these regions joined together to form a single entity under the rule of a monarch. The monarch's latest descendant is, of course, Queen Melina. I'm not sure what to call this bloc. I'm tempted to call it the "United Kingdom" and stay just a little bit close to the real world, but that's probably not a good idea. You'll also notice that there is a big river named "The River of Beginnings". The name is based on @Gravy's myth story. It's where life is thought to have originated. You can see how it spreads across the country to signify that further. The Fire and Air regions have the smallest land. The Water region has the next biggest, and the Earth region has the biggest of all. The earth region is where the country's capital is. Why? Because the royal family is made of earth mages, so they placed the capital in their own land during the formation of the bloc. I have no idea what the archipelago is. I randomly remembered the archipelago visible from the village I'm from, so I couldn't help myself but add it. It might turn interesting down the line. That said, this map is totally open to changes. Come up with something new in the story and I can add it!!! The map is a high resolution image, so it's zoom friendly. You should zoom if you want to inspect it more closely. Maps are meant to be closely looked at.
Fragment Lore By @ps102 The queen wants them — They're necessary to achieve her end goal. They're fragments of a gear — I'm not sure what the gear is yet. But I know that it was broken up into different fragments by those who feared its power in ancient times. The queen therefore wants more power, but power is far from her only goal. When removed from their location, the flow of time is disturbed — The reason behind that is unknown right now. "The Architect" constructed them — This is someone who is repeatedly mentioned in the scriptures, but nobody knows exactly who "The Architect" is. There is speculation but the true identity is a mystery long looked into. The queen has her own ideas. Those fragments exponentially increase the power of mages — This was established during the experiment logs that Barnabas was reading. It was also established that they have some serious side effects. In fact, the queen has him experimenting on them. She wants Barnabas to figure out how they can be used without the side effects. Scientific findings — Barnabas has established a correlation between mage power and side effects. The more powerful the mage is, the less side effects they experience. He speculates that someone who is powerful enough won't experience side effects. The queen is the most powerful person in the country. She trains everyday to be even more powerful.
The Beginnings Myth Story By @Gravy In ages past, the world was still. The trees, water, and air unmoving; until lightning lit the ends of the earth. Founts of green, purple, pink and blue Ether danced across the skies, filling the world with life. The trees grew, the oceans moved, and the air stirred fires across the lands. The world was alive and all living things sprang forth, Ether within their hearts. However, when humans walked forth into the sunlight when the fires abated, only a few remembered the old ways- when mankind was one with Ether. So, those without were sent to live in the shadows, watched over by those who were truly connected to the world.
