@ps102 I hope I've done Olive justice. I've written her the most so far (I feel a strong affinity for her). But I want to make sure that I'm actually staying within your vision for the character.
Also, I realize I need to make Nalki a character sheet! I will get to it. I am not sure how big a character he is, though.
Lol, yeah, I've barely been writing my own character. I've been mostly doing world building to expand the play and make it a bit more exciting. I think it's been okay so far. My vision for Olive always centered around the idea of someone searching for their identity desperately. I think everyone would want to know their true roots. I have this belief anyway that we are all somehow connected to our motherlands. You've all provided wonderful input to the character. I intended Olive to be weak, but later in the roleplay, she was established as strong but out of control due to her condition—something that gives her potential!! And it feels a lot more right. She is exiled nobility from a super powerful family. It would make sense if she was powerful herself. I've got development ideas around how she will find a way to control her Ether. Can I ask to handle this part? I imagine that it happens around the end of her 'character arc'. So I have plans for a character arc. Does anyone else have any for their character? This is indeed a great place to discuss ideas.
Of course you can! Let me know when we get close to it and I will remind everyone it's your scene to write. If that means shuffling around a turn, that's fine. I will make sure it works for everyone, including you. I honestly wish I had plans for Ravenna. I honestly don't right now. Because the way I write, it's always a surprise. I can plan, outline, do all the writing things. But when I get to putting it on paper, it comes out completely different. Like I pull the tap for some beer and I get lemon-lime soda. The only thing I currently have certainty about is that Ravenna's liver is a ticking timebomb and I am honestly not against killing her off at some point. I think finding her family would be part of her arc, but I also don't know if they are alive at the moment. Maybe she never finds them? I don't know, but I have a sense she won't make it to the end of the story. I also think Nalki should get mixed up in all this, because then I would feel less attached to Ravenna. But I think TOO much Nalki could make things difficult. He's the silly comic relief character. He doesn't need to be a main character.
That's fine. It'll come to you eventually! I would hope that she finds family! Love me some comic relief. Sokka from The Last Airbender provided excellent comic relief. Who Nalki is to the story is a good question. I remember there was some talk around him being a potential mentor, but I think I have a much more interesting alternative to that. I dunno yet though.
I would hope Ravenna does. too. But I am never 100% on any specific outcome. Because it always changes. Also, it makes me wonder how her family has been surviving. So many variables. I honestly think that if Ravenna dies, it's going to be defending the tavern crew. I think she's secretly attached to everyone there. Anyway, I do too! I love Sokka!! Nalki might be an accidental Sokka insert. Oops? But anyway. I do like the idea of him being a mentor. What did you have in mind. I am intrigued.

Age in human years (must be 18): 23 A brief description of appearance: (no pictures, please.) - Tanned light-skin, brown eyes and matching short hair. Nalki wears tattered mage robes as he is pretty poor and is of medium height. He has a cheerful smile, a lot of facial expressions and talks with his hands. Background: Nalki grew up in a family of mages, where he was the least talented. So, was left to his own devices and some money when he turned 18. He moved to the edges of poet society and found a cheerful life as a fix-it mage. Doing odd-jobs around the city and other places. He met his husband Charin at a fruit stand and have been happy wed for three years. Nalki occasionally talks to his family who sometimes gives him money if he truly needs. However, he's mostly on his own and happy. At the holidays though, he does visit and has a decent relationship with his siblings. Name: Charin Sex: Male Social Class: Mage Age in human years (must be 18): 28 A brief description of appearance: (no pictures, please.): TBD? My brain hasn't come up with him yet. Background: Charin grew up in the mage class and decided to become a city doctor to help those in need. Was working at an internship for the last years of his schooling. This is how he met Nalki and the two fell in love. They got married and Charin decided to stay on as a doctor at the local Poet Class Hospital.
Name: Wren Bowman Sex: Male Social Class: Mage - Earth Mage Platinum Rank Municipal Mage Age in human years (must be 18): 31 A brief description of appearance: Wren is a fit man of average build. He has short, choppy, brown hair and striking green eyes. He has large flaggelation scars across his back that he refrains from telling anyone about / showing to others. He refuses to take his shirt off around other people. If someone sees the scars, he lies and says they were from an injury as a child (but he's a poor liar so people know it was likely something bad). Wren likes to wear dark colors or leather when possible. He isn't showy, with simple designs and shapes. He has impeccible hygeine with bright white teeth (but due to insecurity he rarely shows his teeth, even when smiling). Background: Wren has a simple childhood with very little strife. His mother stayed at him and his father was a platinum rank municipal mage. Wren sought to follow in his father's footsteps and took an apprenticeship with a gold rank mage who he admired. The man abused Wren terribly, and one day Wren lashed out, accidently killing his mentor. He managed to frame it as a terrible accident and was never punished. He carries an immense shame. He went on to succeed in the magistrate, and now that he has achieved the rank his father retired from, he's left with a hollow feeling of lost potential. He desires for more, but doesn't know what it is he is actually searching for. He takes every mission opportunity he's granted and is often successful, but never accomplished enough to be worthy of prominent attention. When under immense stress he has a tendency to lash out, somtimes (albeit very rarely) violently. Name: Olten Lowe Sex: Male Social Class: Mage - Fire Mage Bronze Rank Municipal Mage Age in human years (must be 18): 21 A brief description of appearance: Olten is a short, stout man but he is well built with immense energy. Despite his size, he has a tendency to occupy a room in a way people can't miss. He's boisterous, witty, and believes himself to be more charming with women than he actually is. He wears bright colors and tight clothes. He blue eys, bright red, curly hair, and a face covered in freckles. Background: Olten was always the class clown. He craves attention and stops at nothing to be the "first" or the "most successful" or "most liked"... Except he isn't actually very good at it. He lacks attention to detail (or any proper attention at all, really). His constant "full steam ahead" approach often finds him lagging behind the more proficient, better studdied of his peers. Despite that, he's a competent mage, innately skilled with little need to study to be "good". He won't ever be "great" if he doesn't take the time to slow down. Name: Priscilla "Pria" Garner Sex: Female Social Class: Mage - Air Mage Bronze Rank Municipal Mage (born Poet, worked hard to raise in class.) Age in human years (must be 18): 19 A brief description of appearance: Pria is above average height and is very slim. People often see her and will remark about how "wispy" she is. She has long stright, light brown hair. She wears spectacles and is always carrying a sketchpad around with her. She wears loose fit, long, flowing clothes. She has a tendency to avoid making eye contact. Background: Pria never knew her father. She was born into the poet class to a single mother who worked as a farmhand. They had just enough resources to get by, but they never had any form of luxury. Pria did not know she was a mage for the majority of her formative years until an incident when a group of men tried to mug her and her mother. Pria's anger manifested in such a strong gust of wind that it knocked the men to the ground, after which they ran away in fear. Her mother quickly worked to get her into the municipal mage program, and Pria grew fast. She was incredibly studious, taking the time to break everything down and grow her skills. She spent many sleepless nights to not only get on par with her peers (who had years of experience on her) but to even surpass them. She has little patience for people she believes are either wasting her time or their own talents. Her primary motivation is to care for her mother. As a municipal mage she hops to make enough money to retire her mother from her laborous work as soon as possible.
@SoulFire all new characters approved! I do have one question about Pria. I thought Mages were born into mage families? I figure that in the world, mages are detected at birth, so the social structure doesn't change that much. Maybe just make her Mage class? Or maybe I am wrong? I have too much story lore in my head from all my projects right now.
Her father was a mage who slept with a non-mage but dipped out of their lives. Pria, as a result, was born into poet class and raised by her very poor mother. Her mother not knowing whether or not she'd be a mage. The moment she showed magic her life changed.
I really liked that part because it's so interesting, and I think it's totally feasible. I don't think we ever discussed magic screening for newborns so we're good.
She's a foil to Katara as well, who was born under similar circumstances bust as of yet has shown no magic.
