Help with relative pronoun in this sentence

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by xtracker85, Jul 1, 2014.

    Hi all,

I'm having a little trouble determining whether this sentence is correct.

Example: John looked at Jane, where she gave him an approving nod.

I know "where" is used for describing locations, but can it also be used in this context? I've tried to replace it with other words such as "which" and "who", but somehow, it didn't seem right. Please help.

    "Who" works. So does "and."

John looked at Jane. She gave him an approving nod.

John looked at Jane--she gave him an approving nod.
