    Manuscript upload fail

Discussion in 'Self-Publishing' started by Annihilation, Jul 6, 2023.

    Hello,

I’m at the point of uploading my manuscript on Amazon KDP and it keeps saying upload fail. I used both docx and PDF files but it doesn’t seem to want to take them.

does anyone know how to fix this?

Has it been formatted? You can download their free program "Kindle create" to format the manuscript and it'll create a file to download and submit.

I just realized that after making this thread. Only problem is I have a Chromebook so there are a lot of softwares that don’t work. I also can’t copy and paste my work onto the blank template so I’m gonna have to use someone else’s computer for that. And on top of that, I’m awaiting a response from the graphic designer who did my cover art. He sent me the art in jpg and Amazon KDP only accepts pdf files so there are several difficulties in getting this published but I’ll start on it again tomorrow.

If I open a jpeg and go to the File menu at top of screen, there's an option to "Export as PDF."

Not sure a chromebook works that way though? I had one (still do), and they're pretty much made for websurfing and little else.

I’ll try everything so I’ll definitely try that too. My mom has a windows laptop so if mine doesn’t work I’ll just try to do what I can on hers. Only thing with her computer is that it’s set to safe mode which means I can’t edit downloaded content such as the KDP template, I can only view it. Gonna have to turn off safe mode somehow.

I'm not sure you'll be able to upload to Kindle on either of those. I think you need to have access to features neither of them will have, unless you're able to turn off safe mode.

Do you know more or less how to turn off the safe mode? The only reason I can’t do it on mine is because i can’t copy and paste. If I use a computer that lets me do that, It’ll work. Such easy things that I’m somehow not able to do at the moment. If there is any advice you can give me, I’m all ears.

Find out what version of Windows her computer has on it. Then do a search for "How to switch off safe mode Windows (number)?"

There are videos and articles showing how to do it.

Safe mode? That's really weird. How did you turn it on?

    Anyway, to turn it off:

    Windows button + R

    msconfig.exe

    And you'll get this window:

Click on "normal start-up" and it will stop entering safe mode. I can't believe your Mom actively used a computer on safe mode. It's not really meant to be for everyday use :)

Jpg is fine for an ebook. Paperback/hardback require pdf.

I'd suggest going through their FAQ for more info about publishing through them: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help?ref_=kdp_kdp_BS_D_TN_help
