    Accented E's

Discussion in 'Revision and Editing' started by tonten, Aug 27, 2010.

When submitting a maunscript, I read instead of EM dashes, you use double dashes to represent them.

I am wondering what about Accented E's? Like in words like Decor, Resume, etc.

Do we use accented E's or normal Es or is either fine?

You should use "é"s when needed, it makes the difference between resumé and resume.

    ditto that!

you have the accented letters in your 'symbols' menu, if using ms word... and there are shortcut key combos for the most common ones...

for some common ones, like resume (Which I am not accenting right now:)) in Word if you just type it like I did the spell check will catch it and offer the spelling with the correct accent as an option, allowing one to avoid having to muck around with symbols.

The United States-International keyboard mapping is good for generating common accented characters, I use that mapping for typing in Spanish. I have the standard US mapping as my default keyboard, but I can easily switch between them with a quick click on the language bar in my taskbar, or by pressing SHIFT-LEFT_ALT.
