Hello! Nice to meet you! I'm Quill. I'm a lady, and 20 years ago I used to write terrible fanfiction. I haven't written in a long time, but now I'm trying my hand at writing my very first novel. I think I write horror stories with some adventure mixed in. I don't know if they'd be classified as YA or not, but I don't much mind either way. I have not practiced writing in a very long time, but I have always wanted to. I read a lot, mostly horror but a lot of adventure stories, too. I like thrillers, too. I have no idea what I'm doing and look forward to sharing my disasters with everyone! I hope I can entertain you and amuse you!
Take a moment and think about your SAM, single audience member. That is the person you're writing for, your reader. Who your reader is, is a choice you make as the writer. YA and coming of age stories are both targeted at a younger audience for the most part. With horror mixed in it becomes a question of how graphic the horror elements are. Good luck
Hmm... Single audience member? Um... I guess she's like me. She likes adventure stories, coming-of-age stories, horror, dark mystery... I guess she's a person who loved Stephen King's novel IT (minus the child-orgy) and likes scary things. Thank you for the advice! You're awesome!
Hello and welcome Quill, you've come to the right place for resources, support and encouragement. Looking forward to seeing you in the forums!
Welcome. Maybe you can dab off with some poetry. We’ve currently got a poetry contest going on so you can try your hand at that one. Look forward to reading your work.
The simplest way to critique a work, is as a reader. If something works well in a story say so, and describe why as best you can. The same for things that don't work.
great, we’re currently at the submissions stage, polls will open at the start of next month, then you can submit your vote for your favourite
