Hello all, I'm a fantasy writer and an editor for a speculative dark fantasy zine. I have been writing since I was twelve and consider writing to be my favorite activity. I have not published yet myself but that's going to be very soon. I have come here to learn more about writing, get input, and find others to collaborate with me on my dark fantasy zine. I'm also an English teacher in Japan, I speak Japanese fluently, and am an adventurous soul. Nice to meet you all and I hope you all reach out to me like I am to you!
いらっしゃいませ! Welcome to WF! You'll get along well with @Zeppo595 and @Iain Aschendale. I only speak conversational Japanese at somewhere between JLPT3 and 2 unfortunately, wish I had the chance to go there more often to practise in an immersive environment. Apart from fantasy, do you write any other genres?
Hey, thanks for the welcome! Apart from fantasy, I dabble in some fictional romance (I suppose?). I have a novel completely planned, and began writing it, but never got beyond the first chapter. It's still sitting there waiting to be written. Something in between a tragedy, a mystery, and a romance about a kid picked up by an affluent family to become an apprentice jeweler, and falls in love with the young mistress. But naturally bad things happen! Just thinking about it makes me want to write it again. I suppose that's why I'm here on this forum, to get those juices going!
Hey there! I'm also pretty new to the forum (I wrote my intro a few hours ago!), so I thought I'd start adding my voice to the welcoming committee as I'm no longer the latest newbie That must be such a great experience being able to teach English in a different country. I, too, technically teach English in a country that I was not born in, but going from the US to Canada isn't as exciting. The book that I just finished actually has some similar elements to the story you describe in your comment. But anyways, hope you settle in nicely!
Ooh, another バカ外人! Just out of curiosity (and feel free not to say if you don't want to) whereabouts are you at? I'm in Osaka, been here for almost 20 years, speak shamefully low-level Japanese, and can't read anything beyond my own name and a yakiniku menu.... Also, welcome aboard, don't forget to check New Member Quick Start and Forum Rules if you haven't yet, all that jazz.
Hi mate, Lived in Japan for 8.5 years in Tokyo the whole time teaching English. Started taking my writing seriously in Japan since I found the isolation there conducive to writing. Now I'm back in the UK I miss the peace and quiet of coffee shops out there for getting work done. My Japanese got progressively better in my first four years there and then slid in my final years as I stopped making as much effort. Look forward to reading your work and hearing more about your Japan experiences!
Welcome to the forums kadedraven! I hope you have a great time here and continue to enjoy your writing.
I'm in Kagoshima down in Kyushu. It's a small city with a big active volcano. Can't miss it (everyone doesn't know it exists, actually lol). Thanks for the welcome! I'll make myself at home :^)
That's basically where I am. Except writing has been a passion of mine much before I learned Japanese. In fact, writing is what got me into learning languages! It's sure isolated here. More so since I'm in Kagoshima. Lol. Thank you for the warm welcome!!
