    Doctor Who - Casting Spoilers

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by misaditas, Oct 30, 2008.

After winning the National Television Awards, David Tennant's shocked no one by announcing that he's quitting the role of the Doctor.

My Livejournal friends list is in flames. It's quite funny really because the rumours have only been flying around for a year.

I'm not surprised. It frees him up to do more stagework, something he prefers. I saw him in Hamlet this summer and the guy is amazing live. So much energy (and so thin! really!)

Cue the umpteen rumours for the next Doctor.

David Mitchell! For a different kind of doctor :p

I did hear a rumour about Russel Brand would be the next doctor, but with the recent scandal with him and Ross, and him quitting/being fired, I think it's unlikely. Which is very good. Another disturbing rumour I'd heard was that Daniel Radcliffe would do it. Firstly he's too young, secondly, I've yet to see any evidence that he can act...

I vote for Phillip Glennister or Ben Mitchell.

Or the return of the DoctorDonna. Imagine her facing down Daleks - "Oi! Daleks! NO!" I'd so watch that.

I don't know who the next Doctor is going to be but unless it is an exact replica of David Tennant, I don't want to know.

He was just .... wow as the Dr.

Yeah, but for all you know, the next guy could be even better.

How about Ian McKellen? Then we could have GandalfDoctor :D

    I agree with Heather.

David Tennant is a really good doctor.

And I don't believe the rumors.
Because David wouldn't do the same thing the other guy who did the doctor before him.
He quit in the middle of the show.

    David is a wonderful Doctor.

My understanding is that Christopher Eccleston never planned to be the Doctor for more than one series, and took the role with that stipulation. He didn't just quit in the middle.

David Tennant has had a good run as the Doctor, but this is a show that does very well with huge changes. Each new Doctor is a vastly different facet of the same character, and I love that they manage to pull that off as well as they have.

Yes, you're right Cog. Chris only ever signed for one series.

David has given us a longer run and a completely different Doctor.

But yes, Doctor Who has always survived a change of actor. As long as the production team choose wisely and the writing team stay as sharp, we'll fall for the next one just as much as we did Tennant's.

There have been ten doctors. I have yet to see a single one I didn't at least like. A new doctor isn't a big thing to anyone (well, maybe it is if you haven't followed it since before Eccleston/Tennant, but I can assure you it needn't be).

Only if he is as nice looking at David Tennant. Lmao ... my mates think he looks stalker like, but I only started watching it 'cos I though he looked allright.

I didn't like Christopher Eggelston 'cos he was soooo moody, and I haven't seen any other Doctors.

Urg, no. Unfortunately I remember it being cancelled eighteen years ago.

Actually, what's just occured to me is that you're 14 right? I have a daughter of 13.

    That's... really, really depressing.
