    ok, this is a sign that i am beginning to lose track of my mythology, but who was the goddess minerva?
    like, what was she goddess of, wut civilization, and such

    The ROMAN goddess, actually. The Greek goddess of <everything he just said> was Athena.

    You're right, of course. I knew it was the Roman goddess, but was trying to think of the Greek goddess she was derived from (most of the Roman gods were state-designated acquisitions of the Greek gods). So I typed Greek in a brain-dead moment.

    the original [athena] was also the patroness of athens, as if you couldn't tell:rolleyes:

    her companion/'totem' is the owl...

    just a question, didn't that owl have a name? I've been trying to remember that for a looong time. But then again, if it did it might have just been from the old Hercules cartoon. The Disney one, with that Michael Bolton song. [hums "Go the Distance"]

    in the disney flick about young king arthur [sword in the stone], it did... 'archimedes'...

    but archimedes was a real greek... a mathemetician and engineer... 'invented' geometry and a slew of machines...
