On the past of a bumbling dad

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Accelerator231, Apr 25, 2020.

So we've got a bumbling dad here. He's got no respect from his kids. His wife doesn't exacxtly love him. He failed his dreams of going to university (bad luck,no money, failure, expulsion) and now works at retail. He's got a slight depression, what with mostly spending his days drinking with the guys at the bar, doing work, and sleeping. He's got a few hobbies, but that's about it.

Then something happens. His wife gets ill, he acts shifty and disappears a bit, and then he's found in the company of another woman. And then something occurs. His wife makes a complete miraculous recovery. One moment, the prognosis was several days, with terminal stage cancer. And then, the next, the tumors are gone, and she's back up and walking as if nothing has happened.

The doctors say its like magic.

    It is.

You know those kids shows where there's some kid goes to some magical land and stays there for awhile. Yeah, that. Only that the kid has grown up, the magical land was quite a bit more dangerous, and right now, they're figuring out a method to enter back into the world. That woman? One of his old friends who also has access to healing magic.

The question is this. Is it plausible for a person to go to a magical land, come out with memories and knowledge on how to get back, and then just.... not go back in? For the next 10 years?

Similar in some ways to Hook. Robin Williams made it believable.

To the degree that any "magical land" is "plausible," yes.
