    Help with Turkish Naming Customs

Discussion in 'Research' started by The Elder One, Sep 25, 2016.

Hi. I have researched Turkey, the Ottoman Empire and the surname law of 1934.

From what I understand, the law obligated everyone to pick up surname, whereas before they used titles.

So I have a character, former Ottoman army officer, now businessman, whom I named Onur Temel Bey, and he is supposed to have a son and daughter.

Now the tricky part, after 1934, he would be obliged to stop using the title of Bey and adopt a surname, and his children would not keep the title. Correct?

Just fact checking, thanks for the attention, guys. Appreciate any answers.
