What is a PMI and OPV?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by break, Jun 9, 2008.

I'm taking a philosophy class and am trying to answer these questions and cannot find the answer for what an OPV or PMI is.

    Here are the questions:
    1) Do a PMI for the reading. (see PMI for explanation)
    2) Do an OPV for both Weirob and Miller, focusing on the central question of the reading (Can a person survive the death of their body). Explain the answer of each with the kinds of reasons that each might offer. (see OPV for explanation)

    Thanks

These terms relate to your class material - the instructions tell you to look for the definintions of the acronyms somewhere in your course material. If those are not hyperlinks in the course material, you should ask your instructor where to find them.

Did the course provide a glossary of terms by any chamve?

In any case, going to a writing forum instead of your class materials to answer such a question is not a great strategy. Even if someone here provides a definition, your class materials will explain it in terms of what your intructor expects to see.

  3. PMI is 'pessimistic meta-induction' known also as 'pessimistic induction'; an argument which seeks to rebut scientific realism.
OPV is 'omnipresent point of view' as in god, all knowing, all seeing, being everywhere.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your studies.

i'd take cog's advice on this, over anyone's who is not in the same class, since only your teacher knows what s/he refers to...
