Doing a google search for my title I came upon a site offering downloads of it for 12$. Further down the page it was noted that 915 readers had rated it giving it an average rating of 4.4. I haven't really noticed any real activity for the sales of my book and am very interested to know what this might be about.
Its either an out and out scam, or piracy ... you could send them a C&D, but if they are based in china or somewhere they'll ignore you and its not worth the money to take legal action - looking on the bright side 915 people have read your book and given it a good rating ... may be some of them will convert to proper readers for your next book in due course
I don't think you should expect that book pirates are any more ethical about review-counting then they are about paying royalties. Is your book available elsewhere for less than $12? If so, I can't see why anyone would buy it from this site, in which case the review numbers are probably fake.
Thanks for answering. I was pretty sure that it was some sort of scam but just curious as to why they decided to feature my book. I guess this will remain a mystery.
I am signed up to get notification emails (from "Google Alerts") whenever my pen names come up on the internet, and I get alerts for that kind of crap constantly. I used to send scathing messages ordering them to take my books down. They'd usually send an apology as if they had no idea how it happened, and remove my books from their site. You can also notify Google or whatever server it's on, I think. But I don't bother anymore. They seem like obvious scam sites and I doubt anyone pays much attention to them. I could be wrong though so jmho. As a side note, for those who don't know about "Google Alerts" or similar, there's no charge and sometimes you get good news too, like discover that someone has reviewed your book on their site or something.
