Picking Your Brains - Free Photo Editing Programs?

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by PiP, Jul 1, 2024.

    Hi,

I am looking for suggestions for free photo-editing programs, please. I have just tried to download Picasa 3, the software I usually use, to my new laptop and Google have decided.
    "Moving on from Picasa
We’ve decided to retire Picasa in order to focus on a single photo service in Google Photos – a new, smarter photo app that works seamlessly across mobile and the web
    ."

I don´t trust Google and AI, so I don´t want my photos uploaded to a cloud...

    Okay, so I´m a dinosaur.:pop:

    Way, way out there
I've used Pixlr Express. Not an app on your computer, it's online, so you might not want to use it. But it's free and really good. The app I use is On1 Photo Raw. It costs a hundred bucks for a lifetime license. Oh, they actually have it on sale right now for $49.99—pretty sweet deal.

GIMP is a free program that offers a lot of similar things that Photoshop does. And its user only, no AI or anything. Just download and use.

I was about to say I use GIMP, but Cave Troll got there first. There are several incredibly helpful videos on YouTube on how to use it if you need a specific skill.

Thanks, all. I am going to experiment with Gimp and see how it goes.

Paint.NET is another popular one that I know of. Might be worth a try if you don't like Gimp.
